At St Joachim’s Catholic Primary School, we believe that every student can learn, grow and experience success. Our curriculum is designed to develop knowledgeable, capable and confident learners through high expectations, purposeful teaching and a strong understanding of each child.
Guided by the Australian Curriculum and the Religious Education Curriculum, we provide a coherent and carefully sequenced learning experience from Prep to Year 6. Students develop the knowledge, skills and understanding they need to make sense of their world, continue learning and contribute positively to their community.
A Strong Foundation for Learning
High-quality teaching is at the heart of learning at St Joachim’s.
Our teachers work collaboratively to identify what students need to learn and to plan learning that builds knowledge and skills systematically over time. New learning is explicitly taught, modelled and practised, with opportunities for students to revisit and apply their learning in increasingly complex ways.
Particular emphasis is placed on developing strong foundations in literacy and numeracy. Clear learning expectations, purposeful practice and timely feedback help students understand what they are learning, recognise their progress and become increasingly confident and independent learners.

Effective teaching begins with knowing our students. Teachers use a range of assessment evidence, classroom observations and student work to understand what each learner knows, what they are ready to learn next and where further support or challenge may be required. This information is used responsively. Teachers adjust instruction, provide targeted support and create opportunities for extension so that students can continue to make meaningful progress from their individual starting points.
Regular collaboration and moderation between teachers also support consistent expectations for learning and achievement across the school.
We recognise that learning is strengthened through genuine partnerships between students, families and teachers.
We communicate with families about student learning and progress and value the important role parents and carers play in supporting their child’s education. Students are encouraged to understand themselves as learners, respond to feedback, celebrate their progress and take increasing responsibility for their learning.
