Grandparent’s Day 2015

Each year on St Joachim’s Feast Day (26 July) we invite the grandparents into the school to spend some time with their grandchildren.

According to the tradition of the Catholic Church, St Joachim, (whose name means Yahweh prepares) was the father of the Blessed Virgin Mary. St Joachim, and his wife St Anne, had indeed an important role as parents to love, support and raise the young Mary for her ultimate task – to become the mother of Jesus, the Son of God.

As educators, as parents, and as people of Christian faith, we can learn from the dedication of St Joachim and St Anne. Our roles within our school community are diverse, yet importantly inter-related and complementary.

On Grandparent's Day in 2014 more than 300 proud grandparents joined their grandchildren in the classrooms and then remained for a shared morning tea. It was truly a fantastic day!
